The Harris Lab is focused on studying the mechanism of muscle contraction at the molecular level and how mutations in contractile proteins lead to cardiac disease. Specifically, we are interested in determining the function of myosin binding protein-C (MyBP-C), an accessory protein of the thick filament and one of the major contributors to familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the leading cause of sudden death in young people.
